At work we use both snowmoblies and snowcats to access our remote mountain top sites in the winter. I've been issued an older one, based out of the Spokane Office. It was purchased new in 1979 and we bought it in 2004. It needed a lot of TLC, for which I've performed most of it, with a few (oily) exceptions, such as cleaning all the control valves for the blade. The left picture is my first test run for a few hundred feet to find out what was working and what needed looking into. There was lots to do, starting with a bad battery, oil and filter needing replacement, along with the fuel filter. The blade controls were intermittent. In looking at the rear drive sprockets, they might need recoating soon.
I usually park it at the lot for readiness to go. That nice bright key cord keeps it from getting lost in snow or at night. The tracks are in pretty good shape. Normally I keep 'em covered to protect against the UV, especially during the summer.
The wiring behind the control panel needed some clean up as well. A little restricting to work with. Also the throttle was worn and bent so a replacement was ordered from Peterson Equipment in Logan, Utah.
Fortunately, I have a warmer place to work on the Cat in the middle of the winter.
The crank handle for the trailer was getting messed up, so I installed a new one, with a nice plastic handle that turned separate from the spindle.I did'nt have time to take pictures of the new handle, however it works great now. A pleasure to operate while hitching to the tow vehicle !
