Introduction to Pete, my partner in Western Washington, on 147.20

I've known Pete since the mid-80's where we both had similar interests in Amateur radio, including repeaters. We "parallelled" in several ways, including the coincidence of being on the same frequency of 147.21 in the early days, then both moved to 147.20, with the new Western Washington band plan to help save our 2 meter plan by going to tolerable 20 Khz, instead of the dreaded (California style) 15 KHz repeater slot (channel) spacing.

Pete and I've worked out just about every scenario from the ugly jammers, belligerent, annoying "bad apples" interfering with our mission to just day to day stuff most repeater owners deal with. One of the real cool, fun things is after we spend countless hours building something up and put it up on some remote site, under foul weather and push the button and the darn thing WORKS! Such a feeling !! Other repeater duties are basically, pretty much a "thankless" job. Sometimes we wonder why we are doing this, but, hey, we remind ourselves we are providing a good communications circuit for others to benefit by. When we are gone, it's hoped that we will be remembered as some of the few that really made a difference in the hobby, providing guidance, examples, both people skills and technical ways for future generations to thrive on. I consider Pete a dear friend, though it all and owe him a lot in making this cross-state link happen. Many times over the years of developing this system we've gave each other hope and wisdom when the other needed it, above and beyond the call of the hobby. We both stuck to it for the long run. Special thanks go out to his "crew", (left to right) Pete, Marven, "Red", George, and I'd be darned if I can remember the last follow's name. (getting old). Besides Pete, I have worked with George and Marv on several projects and I have to stay even though sometimes we had our differences I look back, now and glad to have known them. I pray they feel the same and wish them well. George has gone through trying times with a bad back and Marv's had a tragedy in family, so I wish the best for both of them and God bless them !

Pete ! Your the greatest, buddy !!
